In a hard-fought match-up that showcased both the highs and lows of the game, the Lady Giants Softball team suffered a setback against Eastwood, marking their first defeat of the season. Despite moments of brilliance, the team’s errors proved costly, coupled with some struggles at the plate, ultimately resulting in a 14-1 loss.
The defeat moves the Lady Giants to a 1-1 record on the year, highlighting the need for adjustments as they navigate through the remainder of their season.
Errors plagued the Lady Giants throughout the game, providing Eastwood with opportunities to capitalize and assert dominance. Despite a valiant effort from the players, defensive mishaps allowed Eastwood to amass an impressive 14 runs on 13 hits, with 11 RBI, further widening the gap between the two teams.
Offensively, the Lady Giants faced challenges in finding their rhythm at the plate. Although there were notable performances, including hits by Rubi Almaguer, Alivia Weisenauer, and Mady Hammer. The lone run came from an RBI single from Weisenauer which scored Almaguer.
On the pitching front, Rileigh DeAnda got the start, displaying resilience and determination on the mound. Despite facing a formidable Eastwood lineup, DeAnda tallied four strikeouts over 1.2 innings, though she conceded seven hits and two earned runs. Allison Gazdecki took over pitching duties for the remaining 2.1 innings, demonstrating her skill and composure under pressure. Gazdecki recorded one strikeout and held Eastwood to six hits, yet two earned runs slipped through the defense.
