SANDUSKY – The Lady Giants travelled to the Cedar Point Sport Center for a game with the Brush Arcs during the Jingle Bell Jam Tournament.  Ross came home with a 65-44 defeat to give them an 8-2 mark heading into 2022.

The Brush High School Arcs, added to the Jingle Bell Jam on Monday afternoon took the place of Laurel High School after covid cases were reported on the team.

Ross might have wished Laurel was allowed to play. The 7-2 Arcs brought a team that had good height and a team that was quick and, on the mark, close to the basket.

The Arcs had three players in double figures led by Taylor Johnson-Matthews’ 21 points. The talented senior found her way to the basket for several high percentage shots. Asia Nicholson added 14 points while Donee’ Frazier ended with 13 points.

Fremont Ross failed to get anyone into double-figures. Lyndi Wolf led the Giants with nine points and Janiah Holmes and Hannah Sheidler finished with 8 points apiece.

Brush took a 15-9 lead after the first quarter and by the break had a 31-17 advantage.

Brush kept the pressure on as they outscored Ross 18-13 in the third period and took a 16-14 advantage in fourth quarter points.

“Every time you step on the court it is a learning experience,” coach Juan Vela said after his team’s loss. “Some time you win and sometimes you lose.  We didn’t see the ball very well tonight because they defended every shot. Our driving lanes weren’t there because they were extremely long. I don’t know how many blocks they had. They were big and athletic, and it showed tonight. We didn’t show much fight during parts of the game, but when you are going up a team like that, it changes your game a bit.”

The Ladies are back in action January 6 with a game at TRAC opponent St. Ursula.

Lyndi Wolf collects three points during first half action Tuesday night during the Jingle Bell Jam Tournament,

Carma Johnson jockeys for position during second half action at the Jingle Bell Jam Tournament.

Abby Cahill looks to pass off during second half action at the Jingle Bell Jam Tournament.

Destiny Robinson drives down the court during first half action Tuesday night.
