TIFFIN – The Fremont Ross cross country contingent running at the Division I regional meet at Tiffin’s Hedges Boyer Park did the purple and white proud. Evelyn Syzmanowski continued her dream season with a qualification to next week’s State meet. She was the first in two years to advance to state for Ross. McKela Elder and Mackenzie Smith qualified for state in 2019. Szymanowski ran 7th in 19:51.1.
The other runners, Mackenzie Smith ran 18th with a time of 20:56.5 and Allison Taylor was only a few spots behind Smith with a 21st place finish in 21:05.4.
The representative for Ross in the Division I boys’ race, Will Kiser, having his first experience at the regional meet, ran a very respectable 17:51.4 to take 30th place.
“Evelyn’s goal was to go to the state meet. Mission accomplished,” Coach John Elder said. “This will be her first state meet. Mackenzie went to state her freshman year, didn’t make it to regionals last year. She made it this year but came up short. Allison and Will made it to their first regionals. It was a muddy day. Seems like this is the new norm. The kids ran well today. With only the top eight advancing it’s so hard to advance. Congrats to Evelyn for this great ending to a great season.”
