FREMONT – Evelyn Szymanowski crossed the finish line first to become the 2021 female Cross Country champion Saturday morning at Walsh Park with a time of 20:29.85.
Szymanowski, finishing first, helped her team to the second-place spot behind Toledo Notre Dame. Ross finished with 65 points while Notre Dame had 50.
Other Ross female runners competing included Mackenzie Smith who had an excellent race to finish two places behind her teammate, Szymanowski, in third. Smith’s time was a very
respectable 20:46.58. Following Smith was Allison Taylor crossing the line 14th in 21:33.02. Aldriane Halbisen was 19th in 21:51.63, Kylie Peck was 28th in 22:59.47 counting as the final Ross runner. Kenna Tooman (41st in 26:16.06), Sarah Burciaga (42nd in 27:01.99) also competed for Ross.
The boys race followed the girls. Ross’ Will Kiser led the pack of Little Giants with a 7th place finish running the course in 17:30.83. Zach Glotzbecker ran 21st in 18:40.29. Aaron McNutt was two places behind Glotzbecker finishing 23rd in 18:53.58. Semaj Kemp ran 25th in 19:12.65. The fifth and final scorer for Ross was Eliot Haitonic finishing 27th in 19:18.18. Also running for Ross were Jaheim Stratton (37th, 20:37.18) and Evan Beardmore (40th, 21:31.13).
As a team, Fremont Ross ran in fourth place with a team total of 103 points.
The boys individual champion was Ethan Cope of Toledo St. Francis with a time of 16:36.99. St Francis dominated the race finishing with an amazing score of 21.
