A year ago the Fremont Ross boys golf team took part in the district preview tournament at Red Hawk Run and shot a team score of 468.
Monday afternoon, playing the same event at the same course the Little Giants improved by nearly 50 shots.
Ross posted a team score of 420 – a 48-shot cut to its score. While pleased with his team’s growth, coach Jim Scharer saw plenty of missed opportunities for an even lower score.
“I saw at least eight three-putts, just on holes I was watching, which is just way too many,” Scharer said. “The greens at Red Hawk are real big and we have to learn how to deal with that and learn how to lag putt, but it’s really hard to lag putt at our (course) with the greens being small.”
Individually, Zane Rusch led the way with a 99 while Braxton White and Cole Druckenmiller each carded a 105. Luke O’Brien closed the scoring with a 111.
“I think the kids are excited because they did better than the last time we played there, for sure,” Scharer said. “Zane was 15 shots better, Luke was about 25 shots better both Cole and Braxton were five or six shots better so everybody did better today.”
The Little Giants get right back on the course, hosting Oak Harbor Tuesday at the Fremont Country Club.
