FREMONT – As Dr. Frankenstein once said, ‘IT’S ALIVE!’

Josiah Cook

Noah Hotz

The Fremont Ross baseball team’s offense got a jolt of lightning in its bats, awakening them from their season-opening slumber and went on to

wreak havoc all over Toledo Rogers.

Just a day after being no-hit by St. John’s, the Little Giants pounded the ball for 15 hits en route to an 18-1 thrashing of the Rams for their first win of the season.

“I don’t think we’re pressing too hard, but it’s always nice to get that win and you hope you can continue that momentum going forward,” Ross coach Jared King said.

After each team plated a run in the first inning, Ross blew the game open with eight-run innings in both the second and third innings. King said once the Little Giants started hitting, the offense became contagious.

“Once we got a string of hits going together, the guys became a lot more confident in their own abilities,” King said, “and saying, ‘If I can be aggressive early in the count, and find a fastball count, I can find a fastball to drive and probably be pretty successful.’”

Victor Jimenez

Tim Mosser

Noah Hotz and Tim Mosser each totaled three hits and two RBIs. Garrett Schneider and Caleb Bennison each had a pair of hits while Josiah Cook went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and five RBIs.

“I think the biggest change was being patient early in the count and making them come into our zone and getting our pitches to hit, rather than getting into his count and chasing pitches in the zone,” King said.

On the mound, Victor Jimenez threw five solid innings for the victory, allowing one unearned run with two walks and striking out four.

“The first inning I got on him a bit, I thought he was up in the zone, he was a little sporadic, going deep into counts,” King said. “Right after that, I think he settled down a little bit. This was his first varsity game pitching too, so I think there might have bene a little bit of nerves, but once he settled down, he was around the one and he pitched a nice ball game.”

The Little Giants (1-3 overall) hope the offense continues Wednesday as they host Oregon Clay. Ross will also honor the late graduate Doug Gallagher. Gallagher, who pitched for the Detroit Tigers in 1962, will have his No. 32 retired by the program.
