FREMONT – After two long weeks of practice over the holidays, the Ross swim teams returned to competition Thursday night and the work they put in over recent days paid dividends.

In a duel meet against Perrysburg, the Swimming Giants coasted to lopsided wins, the girls winning every event in a 141-42 victory, while the boys were victorious, 123-50, with wins in all but two events.
While the team competitions found little to get excited about, a pair of Lady Giant teammates had the best race of the night.
Sophomore Ellie Stover and freshman Rachel Haitonic swam near identical times in the 500 freestyle.
“Ellie and Rachel were dead-even to the hundredth at the 150- and 200-mark, .01 apart at 250 and then stayed within tenths the rest of the way,” girls coach Tina Moses said.
Stover edged out Haitonic, finishing in 5:45.45, just .29 seconds ahead of Haitonic’s 5:45.74. Haitonic also won the 200 freestyle in 2:11.29.
Lindsay Weickert
Moses also mentioned the performance of first-year swimmer senior Lindsay Weickert in the 100 backstroke. Weickert swam her first 500 meter race then jumped back in the pool, only about 10 minutes later, for the 100 back. There, she scored a new personal-best time of 1:16.63 seconds, more than two seconds faster than her previous best.
Alexis Prenzlin won both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke and MaKennah Fitzgerald took first at both the 500 and 100 freestyles.
The boys’ team, meanwhile, set a large handful of new personal records.
Ethan Taylor turned in a 1:55.98 in the 200 freestyle; Connor Colston clocked a 2:16.36 in the 200 IM and 54.90 in the 100 freestyle.
Charlie Corthell turned in a 1:08.88 in the 100 butterfly while Noah Egbert’s time of 6:32.04 in the 500 shaved off three minutes off his best swim.
Zach Edmonds beat his PR by 14 seconds, turning in a 1:04.38 in the 100 free. Oliver Ellis and Evan Starkweather set new marks in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. Ellis clocked times of 29.02 and 1:07.27 while Starkweather had 30.01 and 1:08.37.
The swim teams will be back in action Tuesday at home against Findlay.
