The Fremont Ross girls tennis team bounced back in a big way Thursday evening, defeating Springfield 5-0 to secure their second Northern Lakes League win of the season.
At the top of the lineup, #1 singles Elayna Gray outlasted her opponent in straight sets, earning a hard-fought 7-6(5), 6-2 victory. #2 singles Addy Calhoun was dominant, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win, while #3 singles Shelby Steinberger showed grit and determination, battling through three sets to take a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory.
Head coach Lisa Wolf praised her team’s response following a tough loss to Maumee earlier in the week.
“After a 1-4 loss against Maumee, the girls came back and fought hard for this league win,” Wolf said. “It was good to see Elayna and Shelby forge through in close contests on their courts.”
The victory improves the Lady Giants to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in Northern Lakes League play. Fremont Ross will look to carry that momentum into next week as they return to the courts Tuesday to host league powerhouse Perrysburg.
