FREMONT — On a night dedicated to honoring its senior class, Fremont Ross delivered a tightly contested 3-2 victory over Springfield, sparked by a late home run from Cam Joseph in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Both teams struggled to generate offense early, as the scoreboard remained unchanged through the first two innings. Springfield struck first in the top of the third, pushing across two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Despite not recording their first hit until the fifth inning, the Little Giants began to chip away.

Fremont Ross manufactured a run in the fourth inning through a combination of walks and a Springfield defensive miscue, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. The game was tied in the fifth when Robert Rich came around to score on a single by Braylon Schneider.

The turning point came in the sixth, when Joseph led off the inning with a solo home run to left field—his second of the season—giving the Little Giants a 3-2 advantage they would not relinquish.

Senior left-hander Zavior Esquivel started on the mound for Fremont Ross, pitching four innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out six. Joseph took over in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no hits allowed. Senior Karson Kayden secured the win with a dominant seventh inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced to record the save.

Rich led the Little Giants offensively with two hits in four at-bats. Schneider and Joseph each added a hit to account for all four of the team’s knocks on the night.

With the win, Fremont Ross improves to 10-8 on the season. The team will travel to Sandusky today to face the Blue Streaks.
