After a season filled with close calls and near-misses, the Fremont Ross Lady Giants finally slammed the door shut Monday night, securing a 6–4 victory over Toledo Whitmer in Northern Lakes League action. The win marks a turning point for a squad that has struggled to finish games but showed grit and execution under pressure.
The Lady Giants scattered seven hits on the evening, with sophomore Lilly Halbeisen leading the offense with two knocks. Every player in the lineup contributed, and the RBIs were a total team effort — Maddie Hammer, Rubi Almaguer, Kenna Tomman, Jersey Smith, and Addie Schoch each drove in a run to fuel the victory.
In the circle, freshman right-hander Brooklyn Berndt delivered a standout performance. Berndt went the distance, tossing a complete game and allowing just four runs — only two of which were earned — on seven hits while striking out an impressive 11 batters. Her poise and command were crucial in holding off a late push from the Panthers.
With the win, the Lady Giants improve to 8–7 on the season and gain momentum heading into another key NLL matchup. They’ll be back in action tonight as they travel to Sylvania Southview to face the Cougars.
“We’ve been in a lot of tight games this year,” said Head Coach Megan Rahe. “Tonight, we proved we can finish one. This is a big confidence boost.”
