The Fremont Ross Little Giants came up short in a two-game Northern Lakes League series against the Clay Eagles this week, falling on both Monday and Tuesday to drop to .500 on the season.
In Game 1, the Little Giants hit the road to face Clay and battled throughout but couldn’t find offensive rhythm, falling 6-0. Ross was limited to just three hits on the night, with two coming from leadoff hitter Cade Reineck.
“Just wasn’t our night,” said head coach Chad Thiessen following the loss. “Credit to Clay—their pitcher threw a great game and they strung some timely hits together.”
Karson Kayden took the loss for Fremont Ross. The right-hander went five innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out five.
Tuesday’s Game 2 matchup saw the Little Giants’ bats come to life, collecting nine hits to match Clay’s total. However, Ross couldn’t capitalize in key moments, ultimately falling 5-2.
Offensively, Breylen Garza, Robert Rich, and Dominac Burkett each turned in solid performances at the plate with two hits apiece. On the mound, Braylon Scheider got the start and went four innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs while striking out eight. Zavior Esquivel and Cam Joseph both provided solid work in relief.
Now sitting at .500 on the year, the Little Giants look to regroup and get back in the win column as they prepare to host Perrysburg this Friday in another key NLL matchup.
