Over the weekend, the Fremont Ross Little Giants wrestling team made the journey to Defiance to compete in the highly anticipated annual Board Wars Tournament. This prestigious two-day event showcased elite talent from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, drawing in 52 teams to battle for supremacy on the mats.
The Little Giants put on an impressive performance, finishing 5th overall in the team standings, a testament to their hard work, skill, and determination.
Individually, several wrestlers stood out with remarkable achievements:
Lincoln Ollom: At 120 lbs., Ollom displayed grit and resilience, earning a 6th place finish amidst fierce competition.
Brody Barth: Competing at 165 lbs., Barth secured an impressive 4th place finish, demonstrating his strength and technique throughout the tournament.
Bryce Estep and Jayce Frymire: These two standout athletes were the stars of the weekend. Estep, wrestling at 138 lbs., and Frymire, at 150 lbs., both climbed to the top of the podium, claiming championship titles in their respective weight classes. Their dominance on the mat was a highlight for the team and a proud moment for the Fremont Ross community.
The Little Giants’ 5th-place finish is a significant achievement, especially in such a competitive field. Head Coach Chad Hetrick praised the team’s effort and highlighted the importance of tournaments like Board Wars in preparing for the rest of the season. “This event gives our wrestlers invaluable experience against top-tier talent,” said Coach Hetrick. “The way our athletes performed this weekend shows their dedication and the potential we have as a team.”
