Ross dominates Fostoria 3-1

By Bill Bray

FOSTORIA –  The Fremont Ross volleyball team raised the curtain on their 41st season Saturday with a dominate 3-1 victory over Fostoria.

The first three points in the first match for the Little Giants came from the Cahill sisters. Abigail scored the first point of the 2021 season as sister Caroline followed with a point of her own.  A few points through the “kill” route by 6’ freshman Lindy Wolf had the Giants in control. When the score reached 12-4, the Fostoria coach called a time out. But it was the younger of the Cahill sisters, Abigail that served up some aces to put the Giants way in front 18-4.  A point from Jocelyn Hines, and two more kills from Wolf put the Giants in total control as the won the first game 25-9.

The Lady Redmen made a comeback in the second game. After falling behind 4-1 during the set, they tied the set up 10-10. Though there was some inconsistent play from the Giants during the set, it was nip and tuck the rest of the way. Fostoria was able to capitalize and took the second set 25-23.

The third set went to the Giants with a score of 25-15.  And the fourth set was really no contest as Fremont got their composure completely back and ended up the fourth and finally set a 25-9 winner.

“Our girls were inconsistent as certain point of the match,” coach Lindi Cahill said. “But I am very pleased with the work and chemistry this team has created. This is probably the most athletic volleyball team Ross has had in the last five or six years.”
