FREMONT – Between them, Fremont Ross’ swim teams brought home nine event championships and another five runner-up places in addition to a girls team championships and a boys team runner-up this weekend hosting the Northwest Ohio Aquatics Conference Championship.
It brought a busy week to a satisfying end for the Swimming Giants.
“For having three meets in five days, I thought the kids swam really well,” coach Phil Moran said. “Everyone is tired and sore.”
Some of the soreness may from all the medals hanging from their necks.
Olivia DeRodes won a pair of individual championships, winning the 200 and 500 freestyles, the 500 coming with a razor-thin margin of 0.03 seconds.
Alexis Prenzlin won the 200 IM and MaKennah Fitzgerald claimed the 100 backstroke championship.
DeRodes, Prenzlin and Fitzgerald, along with AnneMarie Moses, combined to win both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Moses took second in the 100 butterfly, missing out on first place by just 0.06 seconds, while Fitzgerald won second in the 100 freestyle and Prenzlin finished second in the breaststroke, with Maddie Gallagher finishing just behind her to finish third.
Moses also finished third in the 50 freestyle.
Gallagher, Mara Brown and McKela Elder each took fourth place in the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays, with Lauren Zimmerman joining them in the freestyle and Hayley Wilson swimming in the medley.
Brown also finished fifth in the butterfly.
Dylan Weisenauer led the charge for the boys team as he won individually in the 100 butterfly, second place in the backstroke and also swam legs in the championship-winning 200 medley and freestyle relays. Connor Colston, Case Stevenson and Ethan Taylor joined Weisenauer in the medley relay with Colston, Taylor and James Elder combining for the freestyle win.
Stevenson also claimed a second-place finish in the breaststroke.

Dane Michael claimed the top diving place for either boys or girls team, as he finished fourth by accumulating 274.6 points.
Elder and Kropp finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 freestyle and Kropp took fifth in the 50 as well.
Elder, Kropp, Stevenson and Braedyn Price combined to place third in the 400 freestyle.
