FREMONT – While Mother Nature delayed the TRAC swimming championship for two days, when the event finally got underway Monday, nothing could slow down the Lady Giants.

Ross’ girls claimed seven event championships, set two new conference records and finished second as a team, totaling 526 points.

The boys team also swam strong, taking third place with a total of 412 points having won a pair of individual championships as well. Both teams combined to have at least an all-conference honorable mention performance (top 6 finish) in all but one event, the boys 50 freestyle.

“Great day for Fremont Ross,” said coach Phil Moran. “The girls swam extremely well, as did the boys team.”

The day got off to a tremendous start for the Lady Giants as the 200 medley relay team of MaKennah Fitzgerald, Alexis Prenzlin, AnneMarie Moses and Olivia DeRodes won the championship with a record-setting time of 1:48.07.

After opening the day with a record, the same foursome combined for a thrilling finish to close out the day. Swimming the final leg of the race, DeRodes, overcame a deficit of a second and a half, to out-touch St. Ursula’s Mia Cheetwood by 0.04 seconds.

The victory was DeRodes’ fourth of the day having also won a pair of individual events, the 200 and 500 freestyles.

Prenzlin won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.32, breaking her own TRAC record set last season of 1:07.00, and also took second in the 200 IM.

Fitzgerald won the 100 backstroke and tied for second in the 100 freestyle.

AnneMarie Moses won her first individual TRAC championship with a victory in the 100 butterfly while also placing fourth in the 50 freestyle.

Beyond the championships, several Lady Giants earned all-conference honors. The 200 medley relay team of Mara Brown, Maddie Gallagher, Rilee Overmyer and Hayley Wilson placed fourth, earning second-team All-TRAC.

The medley relay was one of four honors won by Brown, who also won honorable mentions by finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly, sixth in the 200 IM and a part of the fifth-place 200 freestyle. Swimming with Brown in 200 freestyle was McKela Elder, Maddie Gallagher and Rilee Overmyer. The team of Lauren Zimmerman, Hayley Wilson, Allison Taylor and Rachel Haitonic finished sixth in the 200.

McKela Elder, Haitonic, Taylor and Zimmerman combined to place sixth in the 400 freestyle.

Friday, in the diving competition, Jadyn Rozzell placed fifth with 270.45 points.

The boys competition saw the Little Giants win a pair of championships. Dane Michael won first-place in diving on Friday, with Bowen Schoch taking second, earning all-TRAC first-team honors.

Monday Dylan Weisenauer won the TRAC championship in the in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.39 seconds. He also finished second in the 100 butterfly, securing first-team all-TRAC status. He also earned second-team honors as a member of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Connor Colston, Case Stevenson and Ethan Taylor joined with Weisenauer in the medley relay and Taylor, Colston and James Elder combined with him for the 400 freestyle.

Stevenson earned second team all-TRAC with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke as well as with a fourth-place finish, along with Elder, Braedyn Price and Logan Kropp, in the 200 freestyle relay. Also in the 200 free relay, Cole Dymond, Zach Edmonds, Noah Egbert and Sam Sweeney placed sixth, earning honorable mention status.

Colston placed fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 100 freestyles. Ethan Taylor finished fifth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 500 freestyle. Stevenson also earned an honorable mention for placing sixth in the 200 IM.
