HURON – With three matches remaining until next week’s sectional tournament, it’s time for the Lady Giant tennis team to start getting itself in postseason mode.

That’s why Ross played its sectional-focused lineup at Huron, playing its top players in the doubles flights where they’ll be competing in the sectional tournament.

And if Wednesday’s result is any indication, the Lady Giants are ready.

Ross swept Huron, 5-0, with only No. 1 doubles being challenged. The victory lifts the Lady Giants’ duel match record to 13-4 this season.

Gillian Gallagher and Lily Abdoo dropped their first set to Huron’s top two players, also preparing for their sectional tournament, 4-6, before rallying to win the match with 6-3 win in the second set and a 10-5 tiebreaker victory.

“They played very flat,” coach Lisa Wolfe said of her top doubles pair, who will be seeded No. 1 in the sectional tournament, which begins Oct. 5 at home.

“I see right now what we’re going to practice (Thursday) is net shots and serves,” Wolfe added. “I told the girls, that’s what I saw was lacking tonight so we will spend an hour and half tomorrow night for practice.”

Olivia Henry and Natalie Brown teamed up for a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, the Lady Giants rolled as Mallory Hutton (6-2, 6-1), Berlin Swaisgood (6-0, 6-1) and Sophia Biggins (6-2, 6-1) cruised to lopsided wins in the singles flights.

“The singles played well,” Wolfe said. “(Huron’s coach) basically did the same thing I did, beef up both doubles. It was nice to see Sophia win at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. She is a sectional alternate.”

The Lady Giants have two more tune-ups next week, Monday at Port Clinton and Tuesday at Fostoria before hosting the sectional tournament next Thursday and Saturday mornings.
