FREMONT – After a long and championship-filled Saturday afternoon, Ross’ girls tennis team wasn’t about to let fatigue or title-hangover come into play.
The Lady Giants dispatched Maumee quickly Monday, sweeping the Panthers, 5-0.
“I think everybody enjoyed their Sunday off,” coach Lisa Wolfe said.
“Maumee is a fairly strong team and we had to play our strong lineup.”
Prior to the match, Wolfe had Gillian Gallagher and Olivia Henry play a set to determine that day’s No. 1 singles position, with Gallagher getting the nod. She won her match, 6-1, 6-0 while Henry won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
“That’s a good problem to have,” Wolfe said of the set between Gallagher and Henry.
“Gilli played great. We worked on a few things that she needed to improve for her doubles game, like solid backhand shots, and she did that throughout the match,” Wolfe said.
Lily Abdoo cruised to victory at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0 remaining undefeated in singles play this season, 9-0.
Sophia Biggins and Natalie Brown won at No.1 doubles, 6-4, 6-1, while the No. 2 team of Jurni Kidd and Mallory Hutton won, 6-2, 6-0.
“I know Natalie and Sophia like playing together and they don’t get the opportunity a lot of time to play together so I like to do what the kids want to do sometimes too,” Wolfe said. “This was the match I was able to do that.”
Ross will host defending TRAC champion Toledo Central Catholic Tuesday at 4:30 in the Little Giants’ final TRAC duel match before this weekend’s league tournament.
They have the strongest singles, easily, in the TRAC, better than Notre Dame, I believe,” Wolfe said. “This is a solid 1-2-3 singles for Central. We’ll do the best we can.”
