OREGON – Sometimes a single shot in a round is enough to show progress. The Ross girls golf team had a couple of those shots Wednesday.
The quartet of sophomores that makes up the Lady Giant golf team, shot a team score of 280 at the final TRAC Shootout before the league championship next week. St. Ursula won the event with a score of 151.
“They’re starting to see those little things coming together and they’re getting excited to see their scores coming down,” coach Nicole Kulasa said. “They’re getting excited about those things, which are important.”
Shelby Level shot a team-low score of 66 while Sarah Widman had a 69. Grace Britt carded a 72 and Mekhia Williams a 73.
“Mekia made this sweet chip that ended about three feet from the pin,” Kulasa said. “Sarah had an awesome 150-yard shot, which is probably the longest one she’s had yet.
“We hit some good shots and we’re starting to see it come together,” she added. “Shelby and Grace are starting to see it come together. Now it’s about putting everything together and cutting down on some of the errors.”
The errors, however, still abound. Kulasa said even changing the type of mis-hits would be a positive. From avoiding hazards to making better contact, even if off target, would shave strokes.
“We’ve got to start cleaning up our mishits so they aren’t as frequent,” Kulasa said. “Our mishits tend to roll and we need them in the air. We need to clean up the mis-hits.”
The Lady Giants return to the course Thursday morning at the Northwest Ohio Girls Golf League Championship at Detwiler Golf Course.
