FREMONT – Turkey with all the trimmings makes Thanksgiving a special day. But it can also make the day after a challenge – particularly if you’re a swimmer.

The Fremont Ross swimmers had to wade back into the pool on Friday for the Northwest Ohio Aquatics Conference Relays. While a few swimmers may have had to swim carrying a little extra weight from turkey and mashed potatoes, the Little and Lady Giants were no worse for wear. The girls won their event, placing first out of nine teams, edging out Wauseon by four points. The boys also placed second, behind only Napoleon.

“We had to scramble a little with some key swimmers not being able to swim or dive, but the younger swimmers stepped up and did a great job competing,” coach Phil Moran said. “I think some of our swimmers were hurting from a Thanksgiving food hangover.”

Moran added the conference voted to hold next year’s relays the week after Thanksgiving, making the holiday a little less taxing for the athletes.

Ross returns to the pool Tuesday when it travels to Sandusky Perkins.
