FREMONT – It took all season for the Little Giant golf team to break 200 in a nine-hole event in 2017.

But Ross needed less than two weeks to cross that item off its 2018 to-do list.

The Little Giants shot a team score of 194 Tuesday at Fremont County Club in a duel match against Whitmer, who shot 160.

For Ross coach Jim Scharer the goal becomes breaking 200, then 190 and 180, on a consistent basis.

“Last year we never made it under 400 (on 18 holes) and we made it under 200 (on nine holes) once but we cleared both those goalposts here in the first, what, 10 days of the season,” he said. “Hopefully, we can get to the point where we’re 380-385 area.

“What we want to go is continually set a goal we haven’t achieved yet and we want to get to the point where those become more consistent.”

Braxton White once again scored the Little Giants’ low round by shooting a 45. Cole Druckenmiller followed one shot behind, with a 45, and Zane Rousch rebounded from a rough beginning to his round to card a 48.

“What’s really is good is Zane Rusch got off to a very poor start, for him, and he came back and finished par-par to break 50 when he was on the road to 53 or 54 so that was really good for him,” Scharer said. “Braxton is becoming a lot more consistent, no doubt about that.”

Owen Wright rounded out Ross’ scoring with a 55. Wright has been battling with Luke O’Brien and Mike Keegan to become the Little Giants’ consistent No. 4 scorer.

“Right now that’s kind of an enigma,” Scharer said. “Owen’s been fourth twice, Luke has been fourth twice, Mike was in there once. It’s getting that consistent fourth score that is keeping us from getting four scores in the 40s and that’s where we’re trying to get to. That would be great this early in the season. There is a lot of competition for that fourth spot right now, which is good.”

The Little Giants are back in action Wednesday traveling to Fostoria.
