TOLEDO – After a rough outing in any sport, it’s fair to wonder what kind of carry-over effect it will have for the next contest. One tough day can so easily turn into two or three if it’s not properly dealt with or forgotten altogether.

Braxton White

Just 24 hours after posting a 118, Fremont Ross senior golfer Braxton White rebounded in a major way, carding a career-low round of 85.

“That’s one of the better scores we’ve had in a while,” Ross coach Jim Scharer said. “He played a really good round. He had one bad hole. But if you can play 17 good ones and one bad …that’s really good.”

Through three events this season, White carded Ross’ low-score twice, shooting a 94 on Saturday. Despite his high score Monday, he’s carrying a 99 average.

“He’s averaging under 100 with a 118, so that’s pretty good,” Scharer said. “That’s pretty impressive when you shoot 18 over 100 and you still average under 100 through three rounds. That was good.”

White’s performance led Ross to a team score of 389, breaking the 400 mark the Little Giants never cracked all of last season.

“We got off to a good start,” Scharer said. “In the middle of the round we put up some big numbers but then we finished real good. I was pretty happy with that. We haven’t broken 400 in a tournament in a long time and for us to do that this early is good. It was a good day.”

Rounding out the scoring for the Little Giants were Zane Rusch’s 97, Luke O’Brien’s 102 and Cole Druckenmiller’s 105.

The Little Giants return to the course Friday at the Lakota Invite but Scharer will be without his top four golfers due to other obligations.

“We’ll be playing some kids who haven’t played yet,” he said. “It’s going to be a pretty big number but some kids will get some experience, which is good.”
