BOWLING GREEN – A night that began with a sluggish start on both ends of the floor, ended with clutch baskets and defensive stands.

Fremont Ross went toe-to-toe with Bowling Green in a game that went back-and-forth for most of the night before taking the lead for good in overtime and holding on for a 66-63 victory.

The Bobcats had two opportunities in the final seconds to win the game, but Ross’ defense held firm, forcing the extra period.

Ross wasted little time taking the upper hand in the overtime. Campbell drained a 3-pointer. A minute later, Bryce Root scored off an assist from Heidelburg for his first bucket of the night to go ahead by five.

Bowling Green, however, battled back, closing with within one with less than 30 seconds to play, again putting the Bobcats in position to go ahead in the final moments. But, like the fourth quarter, Ross’ defense held strong and BG’s layup attempt missed the mark.

Sewell grabbed the rebound and went to the free throw line for a pair of free throws to seal the game with four seconds to play.

Sewell finished with a team-high 19 points, including three 3-pointers and a 10-for-10 performance at the free throw line.

Campbell made three 3-pointers on his way to 15 points, he also came up with four steals, helping lead to transition points. Heidleburg added 12 points.

The victory raises Ross’ record to 8-13 overall. The Little Giants play their final regular season game of the year Friday night at home for Senior Night, hosting Oregon Clay.
