The Fremont Ross boys soccer team showed grit and resilience Tuesday evening, earning a hard-fought 3-3 draw against Bowling Green in Northern Lakes League play.
The Bobcats jumped on the board first, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to grab an early lead. But the Little Giants quickly responded. Ruebens Utile threaded a perfectly timed through ball to senior Gabe Wensinger, who slotted it past the goalkeeper to even the score at 1-1.
Bowling Green regained the advantage midway through the first half when an own goal put Ross behind 2-1. Once again, Wensinger answered the call, finding the back of the net before halftime to tie things at 2-2.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle. With time winding down, the Bobcats broke through on the attack, slipping in a go-ahead goal to make it 3-2. The Little Giants, however, refused to fold. Pushing numbers forward, Ross created sustained pressure in the closing minutes, which forced a Bowling Green foul inside the box.
Senior Edwin Guzman stepped up to take the penalty kick, and he delivered under pressure—burying the shot to level the match at 3-3. That would hold as the final score.
Despite battling injuries, the Ross back line held firm. Casen Schwochow and Emilio Madrid stepped into key defensive roles and turned in strong performances throughout the contest.
Head coach Alex Coressel praised his team’s effort, noting the progress since the first meeting with the Bobcats earlier this season.
“We played very well tonight and much improved from when we lost to them 4-0 earlier this season,” Coressel said. “We’re getting some guys back from injury and our offense is starting to produce. If we keep playing the way we did tonight, we’ll get some good results the rest of the season. I am very proud of all of our players.”
The draw marks another step forward for the Little Giants as they continue to build momentum down the stretch of their NLL schedule.
