FREMONT — Senior Night carried plenty of emotion on Tuesday as the Fremont Ross boys soccer team honored its four seniors and battled visiting Oregon Clay to a 1-1 draw.
Before kickoff, the program recognized Chase Culbertson, Gabe Wensinger, Logan Tucker, and Edwin Guzman for their leadership and contributions. Head coach Alex Coressel praised the group for setting the tone not just in competition, but also in the locker room.
“Those guys showed great leadership tonight,” Coressel said. “They’ve been steady for us all season and it was great to see them step up again.”
The Eagles struck first, putting the Little Giants in an early 0-1 hole. But Fremont Ross refused to fold. The pressure eventually paid off when senior Gabe Wensinger drew a foul inside the box, setting up a penalty kick. The Little Giants converted the chance, knotting the match at 1-1.
From there, both teams traded chances, but neither could break through. Wensinger’s relentless effort stood out, as he constantly challenged Clay’s back line throughout the night.
Coressel hopes the grit his team showed will carry over into the final stretch of the regular season.
“We have a very hard week and a half coming up,” Coressel said. “Hopefully we’ll take the lessons we’ve learned this season and apply them against some great competition.”
Fremont Ross won’t have long to wait for its next test. The Little Giants return to the pitch this evening when they host Southview in another key Northern Lakes League matchup.
