The Fremont Ross girls’ soccer team faced a tall task Wednesday night, going up against one of the Cardinal Division’s top programs in the Clay Eagles. From the opening whistle, Clay asserted control, building an early lead and cruising to an 8-0 victory.
Despite the lopsided result, head coach Ashton Smith emphasized the value of the experience.
“Although we had a rough loss against a great team, this was a good opportunity for our girls to learn and develop as players,” Smith said.
The Lady Giants welcomed back senior midfielder Ashtyn Marsee, who returned to the lineup after missing several games with an ankle injury. Her athleticism and creativity helped spark a handful of scoring chances, but each was turned away by the Eagles’ back line and goalkeeper.
Senior leader Destinae Scott set the tone with her aggressive play, battling hard throughout the match and keeping her teammates motivated in difficult circumstances.
With the loss, Fremont Ross falls to 1-7 on the season. The Lady Giants will look to regroup when they travel to Southview next week for a Northern Lakes League matchup against the Cougars.
