FREMONT – The beautiful Hawk-Bucci natatorium was buzzing with the season’s first swim meet Tuesday evening.

The Little Giants swam an ‘A’ Team and ‘B’ team during the meet. The Aqua Giant boys defeated Sandusky 131-33. They disposed of Oregon Clay with a score of 126-39 and defeated Clyde (who brought two swimmers to the meet) 131.50 to 13.50.

In the girl’s meet Ross was a 121-49 winner over Sandusky, A 125-39 winner over Oregon Clay and they had a 140-0 score over Clyde.

Coach Phil Moran, the 27-year veteran of the teams was quite pleased with the inaugural meet. “Our brand-new swimmers did really well,” Moran said. “They were working at getting over some nerves.  Many of them never dove in from a block before.  Some of the older kids actually swam PR’s today which is good.  Those kids are physically stronger so they should be getting better, especially on the boy’s side. So, we saw a lot of those kids step up a bit and that was good.”

During the girls meet, a host of Little Giants swam well for it being the first meet. The 200 Yard Medley Relay started the meet off with a win. The foursome included: Channing Stevenson, Maddie Gallagher, Megan Evans, and Allison Taylor. Taylor came back a short while later and won the 200 Yard Freestyle. Channing Stevenson, a member of the first relay team, was an individual winner in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Megan Evans swam to victory in the 100 Yard Butterfly. Maddie Gallagher was the winner in the 100 Yard Freestyle and came back later to capture her specialty, the 100 Yard Breaststroke. In the next race, the quartet of Kamryn Krieger, Sydney Weickert, Kenna Tooman and Alvia Weisenauer swam to victory in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The quarter, by the way, are all freshmen.

Gallagher also stepped up in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay joining Stevenson, Evans, and Taylor to finish first in that race as well.

In the boys meet the 200 Yard Medley Relay team swam to victory. The team included Ryan Dabrunz, Trent Harkness, Logan Weisenauer and Cole Dymond.

Aiden Zimmerman

Junior Aiden Zimmerman took first in the 200 Yard

Freestyle. Weisenauer came back moments later to capture the 200 YARD IM.

Dymond won his second race as he took the 50 Yard Freestyle. It was Weisenaure again showing his stamina when he swam to victory in the 100-yard Butterfly. Dymond took the 100 Yard Freestyle. Zimmerman came back to swim to victory in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Zimmerman took part in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and earned yet another win. Zimmerman swam with Sam Sweeney, Quentin O’Brien, and Evan Beardmore. Dabrunz won his individual swim as he captured the 100 Yard Backstroke.  Trent Harkness was a double winner as he swam the 100 Yard Breaststroke. In the boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay the team of Dymond, Dabrunz, Weisenauer, and Zimmerman were victorious. Another Ross swimmer who swam to victory in the 50 Yard Freestyle was Joshua Ross.
