OREGON – A duel match broke out in the middle of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference tennis tournament.

Fremont Ross and Whitmer faced one another in the second-round of every flight in the TRAC tournament.

During the regular season, the teams played a close match against one another, with Ross winning 3-2. But this weekend the Lady Giants knocked off their Panther counterpart in every match.

“The girls all did their job and more,” Lisa Wolfe said. “All lost 1st rounds being seeded against a player with a better record they had lost to during dual matches, but the second round was all (against) Whitmer and all five Fremont courts won.”

After dropping the first set, 4-6, Vivyanna Esquivel responded to win the next two, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Alexis Huff, who lost her regular season match to Whitmer, won her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 1-6, 7-5, while Lucy Miller won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Morgan Schetzer and Trinity Smith, who also had lost to Whitmer in the regular season, won their match 6-3, 6-4, and the No 2 doubles team of Shea Smith and Brynn Ruppert won 6-4, 6-2.

Each of the Ross flights finished sixth in their brackets and sixth as a team as well.

“So proud of the girls having some tournament experience prior, not being intimidated,” Wolfe said. “They represented Fremont Ross well with good sportsmanship and being a class-act team.”

The Lady Giants are home against Bellevue on Tuesday at 4:30.
