FINDLAY – A district championship and a handful of new program records. That’s a pretty good night’s work.

The Fremont Ross girls track and field team had a meet for the record books at the Northwest District Division 1 meet at Findlay High School.

McKela Elder

AnneMarie Moses

Not only did the Lady Giants win the district team championship, totaling 107 points, 5.5 more than second-place Findlay – who also finished second to Ross in the TRAC championship meet last week – Ross also saw three program records fall by the wayside as well.

McKela Elder’s time of 2 minutes, 16.60 seconds in the 800 run not only broke Tammy Hass’ record of 2:17.61 by a full second, but Hass’ record was the oldest-standing record in the girls program, having stood unbroken since 1981.

The 4×200 relay team of Kimora Rapp, Ashanti Elkins, Jazzele Lindsey, Briana Morrisette won their district championship with a program-record time of 1:43.20, eclipsing the previous record, set in 2011, by 0.34 seconds.

Not to be outdone, AnneMarie Moses broke her own record in the pole vault, setting the new mark at 12 feet, 3 inches, bettering her previous record by an inch on her way to winning the district championship by reaching a height nearly three feet higher than her closest competition.

Briana Morrisette

Jazzele Lindsey

While Moses, Elder and the relay made Ross history, they were far from the only notable performances of the meet.

Briana Morrisette won the district championship in the 100 dash with a time of 12.64 seconds. Morrisette, Lindsey, Nadia Kirksey and Jadyn Rozzell won the 4×100 relay championship, clocking in at 49.61 seconds.

Lindsey also placed second in the long jump, reaching a distance 16-07.50, and third in the 200 dash. Both performances qualify her for next week’s regional meet.

Ashanti Elkins

Kimora Rapp

The 4×400 relay team of Rapp, Elder, Madalyn Metcalf and Ashanti Elkins qualified for regionals with a third-place finish and a time of 4:04.37.

In addition to her relay work, Rapp placed fourth in the 400, earning herself a regional bid.

Sarah Watson punched her ticket to regionals with a second-place finish in the high jump, reaching a height of 5-02.00.

Joining Moses in the pole vault at regionals will be Allision Taylor, who finished third in the district, reaching a height of 9 feet.

Boys team places 4th

Not to be forgotten, the boys team also turned in a solid showing at the district meet, placing fourth as a team and sending qualifiers to the regional meet in five events.

Jason Burling

Bryce McKinstry

Jason Burling continued his stellar season in the throws, as he finished second in both the shot put (52-10.75) and the discus (149-09).

Zach Edmonds finished third in the 1600 run with a time of 4:28.93.

Bryce McKinstry also scored a pair of regional berths as he placed fourth in both the 400 run (51.29 seconds) and in the high jump (5-10.00)

The regional meet will be held Wednesday and Friday, of next week and will be hosted by Amherst-Steele High School.
