FREMONT – For four innings, the Lady Giants softball team stood toe-to-toe with one of the TRAC’s top teams.
Unfortunately for Ross, however, that came to a sudden stop of the fifth inning.
The Whitmer Panthers plated 10 runs in the top of the fifth, seven of which came before registering a single out. Whitmer added another five runs the following inning and suddenly a game in which Ross played well and held a lead, had ended in a 16-2 loss.
Ross held a 2-1 lead through innings, thanks to a 2-run double by Mya Lenke in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Paige Risch and Claire Ochs.
But the Panthers answered in a major way the following inning.
Lenke was the only Lady Giant to collect multiple hits, Morgan Englund, Gabby Zuniga, Risch, Ochs and Malayah Horn also hit safely.
The Lady Giants are now 3-10 overall, 0-7 in the TRAC. Things don’t get any easier as Ross hosts another TRAC championship-contender, Notre Dame Academy, on Wednesday.
