FREMONT – Hosting its rival from Sandusky, the Ross boys tennis saw an opportunity not just for another victory Wednesday afternoon, but a chance to get some practice as well.
With their first doubles tournaments of the season looming this weekend, the Little Giants used Wednesday’s match as a chance to get some of their prospective doubles teams a chance to play together for a change.
Alex Thatcher and Lucas Cronin teamed up at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-1, 6-0, while Nils Nolte and Ethan Moyer dominated at No. 2 doubles, winning every game on their way to a straight-set victory.
In singles action, Trevor Weickert won at No. 1 (6-1, 6-4), Sam Long rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles and Drew Miller won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3 to complete the shutout of the Blue Streaks.
Ross coach Lisa Wolfe said she expects to use Thatcher/Cronin at No. 1 doubles Friday at the Port Clinton Invitational and Nolte/Moyer at No. 3.
Long and Weickert will play at No. 2 doubles while Miller will be teaming with Skyler Huff at No. 4 doubles.
Before they take part in the Port Clinton Invite on Friday, however, the Little Giants (8-2 overall) travel to TRAC rival, and championship-title contender St. Francis on Thursday.
