AMHERST – Ross’ wrestling team split a pair of duel meets Saturday, coming away with a 41-31 win over host Amherst Steele, but coming up short against Oak Harbor, losing 41-29.
“Our regular five upper classmen came in and took care of business,” coach Chad Hetrick said. “We had to forfeit two weight classes that we can’t fill, giving up 12 points right off the bat. Charles Chapman was out of the lineup due to injury.”
Ross’ Caleb Wood, Garrett Barth and Jackson Weissinger each went 2-0 on the day and winning both matches by pin. Lamonte Champman and Deshead Pettiford both also went 2-0 on the afternoon.
Bryce Moreland and David Boda each went 1-1 for the day.
Ross’ grapplers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Elyria for the first round of the team duels state tournament. The Little Giants face Lorain at 5 p.m. with the winner of the match wrestling the winner of Midview and Madison Comprehensive.
“We have a short week next week due to state duels on Wednesday and a tournament on Saturday,” Hetrick said. “I think the wrestlers will come in on Monday to practice ready to work so they can perform at state duels and have a good showing. They have all the talent and ability to do so.”
