TIFFIN – The Ross volleyball team tried something different Tuesday evening. And while the switch in strategies showed promise, and a reduction in critical errors, the results were more of the same as the Lady Giants are still searching for their first win of the season after losing in four sets to Tiffin Calvert, 22-25, 25-21, 17-25, 20-25.

“I’m super proud of my girls because a couple months ago, there would have been no way they could do the transition I asked them to do,” coach Kari Shull said. “But everybody rolled with what was asked of them and played the role they were asked to play tonight.”

Shull moved Lindsey Weickert to Libero with an emphasis on getting the ball on the right side of the court to set up Olivia DeRodes and AnneMarie Moses for kill opportunities. Getting the hitters the ball in position to get points has been a struggle for the Lady Giants in their first three matches.

“We had a lot more good moments strung together, for sure,” Shull said. “We still have a couple of those runs where we make mental mistakes that shouldn’t be happening. But that’s just where time on the court and reps continue to make those bad errors better.”

DeRodes led Ross with 15 kills, Moses had nine and Jazmin Bulger added eight kills. Ross (0-4) plays its third match in as many nights Wednesday evening at Allen East.
