TOLEDO – A five-goal night is nothing to sneeze at in soccer, but the Fremont Ross girls soccer team wanted more.

The Lady Giants kept their season-opening win streak alive in convincing fashion Monday with a 5-1 win over Toledo Start, but Ross came away unsatisfied with a number of missed opportunities.

“We really dictated the tempo of the entire match, from the opening whistle to the closing whistle, we just were not able to finish tonight,” coach Phil Collison said. “5-1 is a good one, but we did create a lot of great scoring opportunities and we just weren’t able to finish tonight.”

Victoria Miller, however, wasted little time starting the offensive chances.

The Ross senior forward scored just nine minutes into the match and struck again just two minutes later.

With 10 minutes remaining in the first half Miller assisted on a goal by Elizabeth Bloom, sending Ross into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

“Tori did a great job, she did a great job on the ball and off the ball, created a lot of scoring opportunities as well. I think it was really nice for her, she was working really hard tonight. It was a good match for her.”

Miranda Shetzer scored midway through the second half and Justine Michael added a goal late on a penalty kick.

Bloom, Sophie Collison and Mary Miller each added assists.

Ross outshot Start 25-2 as it extended its season-opening winning streak to 3-0. Ross returns to the field Wednesday at 5 p.m. at home against Lima Senior in its TRAC opener.
