FREMONT – There was little difference between the boys golf team’s top shooters and its lowest ones Monday. Which was good because the Little Giants didn’t have much room for error against the Gibsonburg Golden Bears.

Ross edged Gibsonburg 205-207, thanks to five golfers shooting within four strokes of each other.

Mason Durnwald

John Mapus

Mason Durnwald and John Mapus led the way from Ross, each shooting a score of 50. Will Stotz followed one stroke behind, at 51, while Gabe Ontiveros and Owen Wright tied for the fourth and final score, each carding a 54.

“We still want to get under 200 but it will take time,” coach Jim Scharer said. “Getting 205 in our third match is pretty good sign.

“I thought we played good enough to win,” he added. “We needed to make a bogey and a double (bogey), at the most, on the last hole to win it and they did it.”

Ross returns to action Tuesday hosting Whitmer.
