FREMONT – It was a bad news, good news sort of day for the Little Giant golf team Friday.

The bad news was Ross didn’t post the score it had hoped for when the day began. The good news was, it wouldn’t have mattered.

The Little Giants posted a team score of 404, good for 10th out of 16 teams at the Lakota Invite at Sycamore Hills Golf Club. But placing more than 50 shots behind ninth-place, even if the Little Giants had exceeded their personal-bests, they weren’t going to place any higher than they did.

“We could have shot better, but we haven’t beaten six schools in anything in a long time,” coach Jim Scharer said.

“The kids had a lot of expectations, playing Sycamore, by far the easiest course we’ll play all year,” Scharer said. “But I kind of mixed it up a little bit, I wanted to give some other kids a chance to play.”

Freshman Mason Durnwald had a solid day, shooting a 92 while Owen Wright scored 98. Will Stotz posted a score of 104 while Braden Ward added a 109.

“We’ve improved in that we’re not three-putting as much, we’re not chunking chips as much,” Scharer said.

Ross takes part in the St. Francis Invite Saturday at Heatherdowns Golf Club were Ross shot a 406 earlier in the week.
