FREMONT – One of the longest-standing records in Fremont Ross track and field has fallen.

Keaton Jordan

Jeff Opelt’s pole vault of 14 feet, 2 inches, set in 1974, is no longer the gold standard for the Little Giants.

Senior Keaton Jordan eclipsed Opelt’s record, clearing a height of 14-03 Tuesday afternoon as Ross hosted a quad meet with Toledo Central Catholic, Old Fort and St. John’s/Notre Dame Academy.

While Ross won both team competitions with numerous first-place finishes, with Jordan’s breaking of a record that has stood for 45 years stealing the show.

The boys team won its competition with a 21-point cushion over second-place Central Catholic, thanks to a strong performance from its field events. Ross took first-place in every field event with Jordan winning the pole vault, Ka’Von Martin taking the long jump and Jayden Lehmann winning the high jump. Jason Burling finished first in both the shot put and discus while Mike Thomas was second in both events as well.

The Lady Giants dominated their meet, winning by 95 points over second-place and taking first in 13 events.

Freshmen Allison Taylor and Briana Morrisette both enjoyed terrific days. Taylor won three events on her own, the 800 and 1600 runs, the pole vault, and was a part of the first-place 4×800 relay, along with McKela Elder, Grace Egbert and Madalyn Metcalf.

Morrisette won the 100 and 200 dashes then the 4×100 relay (with Nadia Kirksey, Jazzele Lindsey and Jadyn Rozzell) and the 4×200 relay (with Kirksey, Ashanti Elkins and Lindsey).

Results below include all of Ross’ top-3 placers.
