AURORA – The Little Giants wrestling team knew, from a team standpoint, their season-opening event at the Aurora Duals was going to be a rough one. Already unable to fill two weight classes, Ross was also short four wrestlers due to injuries, resulting in forfeiting 36 points right from the get-go.

So the Little Giants, instead, focused their efforts on individual days. From that perspective, Ross had a stellar season-opener.

Caleb Wood enjoyed a 5-0 weekend, winning each match by pin in the first period at 220 pounds. 160-pound Jackson Weissinger also went undefeated, going 5-0, and winning four matches by pins.

Carter Smith (126), Ryan Weaver (132), Keaton Jordan (152) and Mike Thomas (285) all went 4-1.

At 106 pounds, David Boda finished with a winning record, 3-2, while Brandon Garcia was 2-3 at 182 pounds.

“Each wrestler worked hard and was aggressive throughout the day,” coach Chad Hetrick said. “The plan was to work on their individual goals and stats since we weren’t going to be competitive as a team.”

The varsity B team traveled to Edison tournament where Bryce Moreland and Isaac Smith each placed fourth in their respective brackets while first-year wrestler Laurence Newland finished fifth after losing multiple matches in overtime.
