FREMONT – Converting scoring opportunities into goals has, at times, been a struggle for the Lady Giants’ soccer team this season.

And though it controlled the pace of play Saturday morning against Clyde, Ross found itself trailing by a goal midway through the second half.

Despite the deficit, the Lady Giants kept belief if they continued to play as they had, eventually they’d cash in.

Did they ever. Ross scored four times in a span of 15 minutes, to not only come back but put Clyde away in a 4-1 victory on the team’s Senior Night.

“I felt comfortable we were going to go ahead and get it,” coach Phil Collison said. “We continued to work and it was just a matter of time. I think once that first one went in, everything got better.

“We went bang, bang, bang once we started clicking.”

Clyde took the lead 23 minutes into the first half on its only shot on goal in the period.

Mia Ramirez

The game remained 1-0 in the Fliers’ favor until the match’s 62nd minute when Justine Michael scored on an assist from Ashtyn Schneider.

Once Michael broke the ice, the rest of the Lady Giants’ offense followed.

Kelby Bickley scored unassisted less than five minutes later and Mia Ramirez also added an unassisted tally five minutes after that.

Then Michael finished the offensive onslaught she began as she scored her second goal of the day after taking a punt from goalkeeper Jessica Shiets and put it in the net.

“They played very well today, I thought,” Collison said. “We got a little sloppy, at times, but the field was wet at the start and it just kept on raining. They did a good job. As long as they continue to move the ball, we do well. But once we start to force it, that’s where we struggle.”

Collison also noted the play of his defensive unit, Bickley, Sophie Collison and Lauren Reau, and, in particular, Marissa Terraza-Cobo and Regan Reau.

Reagan Reau

Marissa Terraza-Cobo

“(Terraza-Cobo) has had limited time but she stepped in today and played 70 solid minutes,” Collison said. “She’s been an off-the-bench player and today she played phenomenal. She and Reagan Reau did a great job today.”

The victory lifts the Lady Giants’ record to 4-7-2 overall heading into the final week of the regular season. Ross travels to Bowling Green Monday and wraps the season up Saturday at Sandusky. While Ross recognized its seniors Saturday, Sophie Collison, Michael, Bickley, Jordan Relford and Mackenzie Kidwell, they’ll play their last game on their home field Wednesday when the Lady Giants host St. Ursula.
