TIFFIN – It was a different sort of day at the office for the Lady Giant golf team Tuesday.

Fremont Ross showed up to its duel match against Tiffin Columbian at Mohawk County Club and only then did the Lady Giants find out they’d be playing a match-play style event, rather than the typical stroke play.

Coach Nicole Kulasa gathered her team for a quick tutorial on the difference of the formats – playing to win individual holes being chief among them. Though the change in format took them by surprise, Kulasa and her team chalked it up as an event to relax and have fun.

“It was more a fun event because it really wasn’t what I was expecting,” Kulasa said. “It was their Senior Night and I think part of the reason was they wanted quicker pace of play and the weather.”

Kulasa said her players liked to concept of match play, knowing each hole is its own game.

“The biggest thing they got out of it is they’re playing each hole, if they lost one hole they get to come back on the next hole and win it,” she said. “That concept stuck with them.

“It was a good event.”

Ross’ girls’ season is over. Their next event is the Oct. 3 sectional tournament at Sycamore Hills.
