FREMONT – Against certain teams and certain programs, sometimes a respectable showing is enough.

The Lady Giant soccer team hosted TRAC soccer power Notre Dame Academy and for nearly 70 minutes, held their own against the Eagles.

While the scoreboard read 8-0 at the end of the night, the score was only half that with 13 minutes remaining in the match.

“Once we started to put more and more of the least-experienced kids on, that’s when the match kind of fell apart,” coach Phil Collison said. “That core group of 12 or 13 or 14 girls, they did a real good job. They did a good job of holding that back line and forcing shots from the outside.”

With a deep roster of year-round club players, team likes Notre Dame remains a difficult shore for Ross to remain competitive with over a full match, but Collison said there were moments where the Lady Giants showed what they could do.

“The defense, that defensive four and (midfielder) Justine Michael, did a great job,” Collison said. “They did a great job. Notre Dame is very, very high-quality team.

“We continued to pressure throughout the game, I thought we were going to get one at one point. It was Ashtyn (Schneider) and the keeper one-on-one opportunity and one of their defenders corralled her in. We fought hard.

“It was respectable. I can live with it.”

The Lady Giants, 3-4-1 overall, 1-3 TRAC, are back in action Monday against Rossford.
