The Little Giant golf teams have teed off on the 2018-19 athletic season for Fremont Ross.

Monday morning the boys team carded its second event in three days while the Lady Giants opened their season with a solid showing at the first TRAC Jamboree.

Despite only just having their first official practice on Wednesday, the Lady Giants posted a score of 487 – two shots ahead of Whitmer. While coach Nicole Kulasa couldn’t recall if her team had outscored another TRAC school at all last year or not, doing so in the first event of the season gives her team an early confidence boost.

“It was a great start, especially since it was 18 holes in this heat and the Red Hawk is not easy. It’s a hard track,” Kulasa said. “Right off the bat, to come out and win by two strokes, I think the girls were really excited to see that.

“It was only Whitmer that we would have come close to (beat last year),” she added. “I think this year we should have a good chance to hang with Clay and Whitmer and I think we should be able to start creeping on Findlay a little bit.”

Junior Shelby Level led the Lady Giants with a 107.

“She’s really taking on the leadership role, she has the most experience of anybody on the team,” Kulasa said. “I think she really came out and set goals for herself today and that’s kind of how she got that score today. She was proud of herself.”

Alania Smith posted a 118 with Mekhia Williams adding 126. First-year player Jasannah Sabiers rounded out the scoring with a 136 while fellow first-year golfer Madison Hunt shot 157.

“Madison Hunt started two or three weeks ago, she thinks she struggled and so did Jasannah, but coming out and playing 18 holes right away, they did an awesome job,” Kulasa said. “You’ve got to start somewhere.”

The boys team started its season with a solid showing as well, carding a score of 411 Saturday afternoon at the Knight Invite at Heatherdowns Golf Club, despite playing a shorthanded lineup. Monday, depite playing full-strength, Ross’ score went up to a 437.

While he knows scores will fluctuate in the early going, boys golf coach Jim Scharer’s disappointment stemmed from knowing his shorthanded lineup shot 26 shots better than on Monday.

“We’re not getting anybody in the 80s right now, which is a little disappointing, but that will happen,” he said. “I had five seniors out there today and they got off to a real bad start and we didn’t respond very well.”

Braxton White led Ross on Saturday with a 94, followed by Zane Rusch’s 96 and a 103 from Luke O’Brien. Owen Wright rounded out the scoring with a 118.

Monday’s event saw Cole Druckenmiller post a 95, Rusch a 107, Mike Keegan shot 117 and White carded a 118.

The Little Giants are getting right back on the course, playing again Tuesday morning back at Heatherdowns at the Panther Invite.

The Lady Giants’ next event will be Wednesday morning at Eagles Landing Golf Course for another TRAC Jamboree.
