FREMONT – Playing its penultimate duel match of the season, the Fremont Ross boys tennis team wanted to play the lineup it will use in this weekend’s sectional tournament, but the Little Giants were shorthanded.
Playing without their top singles player, the Little Giants lost their three singles matches in a 3-2 loss to Sylvania Northview.
No. 1 singles player Nils Nolte missed the match due to illness, which required No. 2 singles player Ethan Moyer and No. 3 Drew Miller to each move up a flight while Isaac Minor was called up from junior varsity to fill in at No. 3 singles.
The Little Giants fared better at doubles where they were at full strength. Alex Thatcher and Trevor Weickert prevailed at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-3, while the No. 2 pairing of Sam Long and Lucas Cronin won by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
The loss drops Ross’ overall record to 14-4. The Little Giants are back in action Tuesday at home against Bowling Green, which will be the team’s Senior Night as well.
