TOLEDO – The Fremont Ross softball team got off to a nice offensive start to the game Wednesday afternoon at St. Ursula.

Unfortunately, the Lady Giants couldn’t keep it going.

After jumping out to a two-run lead in the top of the first inning, Ross saw St. Ursula go on to score 10 unanswered runs in a 10-2 loss to the Arrows.

Braelyn Horn got gave the Lady Giants an early spark with a solo home run to right-center field in the top of the first inning to spot her team the lead. Gabby Zuniga followed with a base hit and was soon thereafter driven home on an RBI base-hit by Paige Risch as Ross took a 2-0 lead.

St. Ursula got a run back in the bottom half of the inning but Ross held the lead until the bottom of the third inning when the Arrows took the lead with a two-run inning.

St. Ursula blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth where the Arrows were the beneficiaries of Ross pitchers struggling with control. St. Ursula scored six runs on three hits, two walks, a hit batter, two passed balls and three wild pitches.

In all, St. Ursula totaled 13 hits and seven walks against three Lady Giant pitches, Morgan Englund, Gabby Zuniga and Malayah Horn while Ross totaled just six hits and no walks.

Horn led the offense with a pair of hits, including her home run which was Ross’ only extra-base hit of the day. Rich, Zuniga, Risch and Kaylee Dodson also had base hits while the Lady Giants’ bottom four hitters in the lineup went hitless in nine at-bats.

Ross is now 2-7 overall this season, 0-5 in the TRAC. The Lady Giants will return to action Thursday when they host Huron at 5 p.m.
